RAF Bomber Command WW2 Memorial

June 25, 2012

It’s been a long time coming and was bound to be controversial when it came, but RAF Bomber Command will finally be getting a memorial to the 55,573 servicemen who died during World War Two.  Putting the aesthetics and design of the memorial aside for now, though it feels a bit Roman for my liking, the memorial raises issues around the role Bomber Command played in the bombing of civilians and especially in the firebombing of Dresden.

Memorial website is here, Daily Mail article regarding MoD refusal to help out financially here, and Guardian comment here.
